Form and Formless No.12 - with description including reference to art and beauty in general

The simplicity in form conceals a greater complexity upon longer viewing. Form and Formless No.12 in fir was conceived on the sketch page with the precise angles and proportions seen here in the final piece. The sensitivity and subtlety of the form always baffles the sculptor in its implications regarding the laws of nature, perception and existence. The conclusion is made, that art, form and nature contain a beauty and mystery infinitely revealing in depth, and we as humans can dip into this beauty as long and as far as desired without ever exhausting its possibilities.

To the sculptor, the piece constantly reminds of a "key to truth hanging on the wall", where the form and its absence are in eternal communication, forever engaged in an inextricable relationship of total wholeness, beyond the fragmented patterns of dualistic reality.

The One and Only All

Opening up to the ground of spacelessness—
Peering into oneself—
The looker is the seen—
Separation dissolves
Leaving only the vast waters,
The one and only All

Just Stands

The mist, thick and white,
Pressed down upon
Our lives below
In this morning scene
Of proud oppression—

It was quiet.
Many had yet
To make the crossing
From within to without;
To bring forth
That new energy,
To start the day
Afresh and alive—

How quickly the violent
Winds of the night
Are forgotten
As the dew-filled air
Sits heavy and present
All around us,
Impeding our innocent
Existence—

Gazing at the scene
In a sleepy trance,
The motionless pine
Is there—
Standing tall,
Firmly anchored
In the motherly soil,
Its nonchalance,
knightly, nay stoic
In its unmoving response
To the fiercely quiet attack—

In its noble stance,
The expressionless tree
Reminds of strength,
Of an enduring wisdom,
And confident knowing.
Untouched by anger,
Dread or time,
The great plant stands,
Neither inside nor out,
But just stands
In silent order,
Nurtured by the watery air,
Living this day
Equally to the last
With its roaring winds
Of empty threats,
Tormented thoughts,
And exhaustive power—

It stands,
Alive and fresh,
Always new
And full of vigour,
Swaying or still,
Wet or dry,
Purifying the air
And supplying life
For us to breath,
So we can move
With strength in our hearts
From all the trees
Surrounding our day
From morning to night,
And night to morn,
Overseeing our thoughts
And inspiring our acts—

Leaving the home,
We step into eternity,
The endless dome
Beyond the mist,
Engaged with the trees
In timeless union,
In renewed recollection
Of the harmonious whole,
And the permeating Soul,
So great in wonder,
And unmoving in motion.

Fragments

Fragments

Raking up the scattered fragments of neglected memories like soggy leaves left to freeze in the wet and cold coastal winter—
Melancholic events suspended by invisible strings dangling above a crib like a baby's mobile, hardly moving—
The numbness from incessant stories told and retold with slight variation over weeks, years and centuries; a reminder of our simple motives and carnal desires—
Dimly glowing through the deep fog, the torch of humanity, never ceasing to twist and dance in the endless evening of the past—
Towards the fire we look, like ancestral cave dwellers; without thought the mind is quiet, focused and awake. We thirst for simple peace amidst the threat of neighbours; no time for dread or waiting in vain, for now is the only now, the eternal now, the now of centuries before and of centuries to come. The love impregnates the dirty faces.

Counting the Days

Counting the Days

The fierce wind
Like the wrath of the Anemoi
Tears through the place
In powerful surges
Disrupting the dirt and dust
And the stagnant memories
Of yesteryear—

The unknown forces
Acting within us,
Awakened by those without us,
Send us scurrying
Into our dark holes of hibernation
Where unbeknownst to us
We maintain and nourish
The agony and misery of humanity—
Yet, we may once again find that spark,
That candle light, dim yet vibrant
Which will guide us into the rays of sun,
Shining down on a land and ocean
Of boundless Life,
Illuminating a sky of vast potential
And ethereal inspiration
Moving the entire earth
To glow and dance,
To breathe and pulse
On the endless day
Of days we need not count.

An anecdote and a poem

Parallel Forces No.6

An anecdote and a poem:

For some reason, all the people I interacted with in my community today seemed to be shining internally. Can you believe it? I didn't get a "nasty attitude" from anyone! I will mention one of them: the place I ordered curry for lunch. The rice was truly beautiful. There was an essence to it—the artful way it was made echoed centuries of cultural evolution. I know I cannot make rice like that at home, I just don't have that kind of cultural knowledge and memory in me. It's like the cook was not playing the role of the cook but had the beauty of the craft flowing through his being. After eating the palak paneer, I was invigorated. The freshness and quality of the ingredients are not the only factors at work here. Anyway, the vitality which I came in contact with today oxygenated my internal flame and inspired the following poem.

Anything and everything—
The pristine clarity of Love—

Moments are moving,
Time factors not—

The crystalline World
Asks not for a thing—

The silence prevails
Underneath the act.

Nature No.1

The engagement of sight,
The silent wonders
That quiver before us—

The fluttering butterfly,
Its sails gaining purchase
On the weight of the atmosphere—

The slow moving slug
Its senses, like ours,
Engaged with the environment,
Its head turning with
Smooth trajectory
And compassionate order—

The fruit tree swelling
With such rapid growth,
Turning water into juice
And shining in the sunlight—

The bumble bee busy
In focused activity,
Unpausing to ponder,
To sit and stare
At the endless sky,
The distant moon,
The light of the stars,
And the ending of time.

Thoughts on the World

Thoughts on the world:

The pure present within which all movement plays about is silent amidst the noise, peaceful amidst the chaos. The war-cry is insanity at its most powerful expression and is seen clearly as such only through the eyes of compassion. We hold hands in love and community, ever falling out of violence and into Sanity, Health and Prosperity. We must listen to the angry ones like we would to a hurt child and answer with love instead of hostile reaction. (Clear away wrong-doings of the past and start afresh everyday!) For this reaction is simply more of the same violence. And, this is the cause of perpetuation. This "non-reaction" is the important change in society. Society consists of individuals, so each of us must change and this is how the world is changed — not by trying to control "others" (or ourselves) and manipulate the internal or external system and our surroundings and interior — proper and liberated expression comes later because we don't know how to act properly until we have changed. Before changing (ourselves), our actions will be partial and reactive, causing more conflict. Action is an expression of the core self. If there is peace, love and wholeness at the core, there will be an outward expression and working of the same. So-called "society" is a reflection of our individual selves.

Note:
This change in ourselves will not occur if we attempt to control ourselves, because this is more violence, just directed inwardly. Real change and liberation can only occur when the fundamental way the psyche works is seen actually — not conceptually. This is the important point. We must see ourselves directly, not through the interpretation of comparative (dualistic) thought. Seeing this way is the action which ends in dissolutionary change; and therefore freedom, love and wholeness.

Transient Reflection No.1

Even fleeting moments
Never were
But transient reflections,
Appearing densities,
Only to fade just as easily
In timeless flux—

The moon-cast shadows
Of crooked pine
Dissapear as the shoji screen
Slides open
Revealing the dark night
And endless transformations.

The Inclusive Nature of Events No.1

The Inclusive Nature of Events No.1

The wild cry of the child on the beach,
Muted into the atmosphere amidst
The multitude of voices—

The hot sun casting down
Upon umbrellas, bodies, sand,
And sending its glistening glare
off the wavy water in infinite directions—

The "day" is not,
But only this,
This measureless motion,
This endless sky,
This absorbing beauty.
